Sorry, there is no link in the error log. Just the message.
same no link
As the link he/she means the link with «C:/Program Files/» and etc.Just write as it shows like writing a website, download it and turn the «tmp» in the end to «exe» and run it.It worked for me perfectly.
Thanks man! I wouldn’t find out so fast! It seems that it happens more often now though?
The error 5 message will show a file path … eg: «C:/Program Files/(wherever your Minecraft.exe launcher is stored)/tmp/tmpLauncher.tmp». eg: mine was «C:/Program Files (x86)/minecraft/tmp/tmpLauncher.tmp». What you want to do is open File Explorer and go to that folder location. Rename «tmpLauncher.tmp» to «Minecraft.exe». Then copy/move it from /tmp folder to the folder just above it that has your old Minecraft.exe launcher. EG: I would move it from /minecraft/tmp/Minecraft.exe to /minecraft/Minecraft.exe. Say «ok» every time you’re prompted for Admin rights to overwrite, rename, etc the files. Once you have the new launcher copied into place, then right-click and run it with Admin Privilages. It will download a new sub-launcher, unpack itself, and all will be good. (So, basically, the only thing this error did was prevent the new launcher that got downloaded as a temp file from being copied and pasted over the old launcher and named to it. So, you’re just manually doing that for it.) Hope this clarifies what you need to do, b/c the instructions on this web-site are not clear.
This worked! Thx
Sorry, but im not really getting it? I have 0 compatablity with a laptop, so if you have any picture step by steps as reference, it would be greaty appreciated.
I just got it, but I was confused too.
I apologize now if I talk to you like a 3 year old, but I want to make sure anyone (kinda computer dumb) can get it. On your launch icon, right click it and select the «open file location» you will see a folder in there called… tmp. You will see a file in there with the extention (the part behind the period) .tmp … this is what you change to .exe. Then run it. That’s what worked for me. Good luck!
yessss. thanks. took forever for me to find something that finaly works.
HEY! your right! I just wanted to add, if your nervous, copy and paste the original .tmp launcher so you have an extra copy!
Thank you so much !
Thanks for the useful post. It works.
You’re the man, man. Worked like a charm.
You won an Internet
Thank you!
This seems to work fine…temporarily. Then after a couple times loading the game, it again downloads the launcher and I have to redo the same process of renaming and moving the file. Is there a permanent fix?
1.Step: go to https://minecraft.net/de-de/download/alternative,
2.Step: download Mincraft.exe older version for java, 3.Step: save Mincraft.exe in your mincraft order 4. Step: start mincraft
blahblah you are a legend, thank you so much. It worked for us
THANKYOU!!! I’ve been trying to fix this all day
OMG, THNK YOU!!!!! It worked.
What I want to know is, what the heck happened? Is this something on Mojang’s end? I noticed the Native Launcher at first was 38.81 mb. Then after doing the rename to Minecraft.exe, the Native Launcher window came up again, but this time it was like 40 mb.
Anyway, this fix works. Thanks.
Not a clue what happened or who’s side it’s on, but I am having to do this step every time I load the game. With this happening to so many of us suddenly I am inclined to think it’s on their end.
Okay, that’s odd if every time you have to do that renaming bit and everything else. I only had to do the step once. Before I submitted this reply, I went ahead and double clicked the desktop icon, just to run the program again, well, the Native Launcher thing ran AGAIN, 38.80 mb in size, it completed, then said, unpacking launcher. Then, a new, smaller window opened up with a message, about a new look, so my guess, they are trying to change how the main Minecraft screen opens, and in turn, is causing users nothing but headaches. Anyway, I am running the new and improved look and really, they didn’t have to change anything. It was fine the way it was before. STOP CHANGING OUR PROGRAMS!! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. 2.0.760 is the new version number for the launcher by the way.
thanks Tom
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!! To both blahblah for giving easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions for fixing the problem and to Tom for saying what, I think, most of us would like to say to unnecessary tinkering: FOR THE LAST TIME, LEAVE IT ALONE!!!!!! I’m with you on this, Tom: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!!
Yep, that’s it exactly cat. Quit trying to «fix it» Mojang, when it works just fine the way it is.
Yep, exactly cat. Stop trying to «fix it» Mojang,. It was working just fine the way it was.
