Video game developer Rockstar is announcing that it is planning to bring down the servers that are running the Online side of Grand Theft Auto V on Wednesday, April 27 to make sure that the infrastructure associated with the title is solid enough to support it in the future.

The information comes from the official support account of the company and explains that the servers are being taken offline starting at 1 AM Easter Daylight Time and that the studio is estimating there will be five hours during which the mode will be offline.

The announcement is a little surprising because Rockstar has been very interested in keeping the Online side of GTA V running for as long as possible because it does not want players complaining about being unable to get access.

The studio is not ready to offer any information about what it wants to do with the game for the five-hour downtime, but fans are already speculating that big changes are being prepared.

Some are speculating that overall performance for the Online component is being improved and that there are plans to improve the update process so that the company can deliver new content more easily in the future.

GTA V might soon get an announcement about single-player DLC

Rockstar has been launching new events for the Online experience every week, introducing new vehicles or new modes, with the most recent of them called Inch by Inch, to keep the community engaged in the long term.

Other members of the fan community believe that the company is finally getting ready to make an official announcement about the single-player downloadable content pack that has been rumored since the title was first launched on last-gen consoles.

A recent leak states that gamers will be able to play as a new character named Anthony Miller, who is not connected to the three original protagonists, and that a lot of time will be spent riding horses and playing in casinos.

An official announcement might come during E3 2016 although other sources are saying that Rockstar and Take Two are instead working on a new title in the Red Dead franchise.

Apparently, the name the two companies are using is Legends of the West, and it will serve as a prequel, with gamers able to play as a range of unique characters associated with the setting, with the map including New Bordeaux, which is also featured in the coming Mafia 3.
