Gwent guide — Tips and Tricks

Gwent — a card game in the universe of The Witcher, which is currently at the stage of closed beta testing. To win, you need to skillfully handle your deck of cards. In this guide we will try to give you some useful advices.

Round loss

Gwent is best played in two of the three rounds. This means that you can afford to lose a single round. Always keep this in mind. Even if you see that the opponent wins the round, do not get discouraged and try to use it to your  advantage.

Force an opponent to spend more cards than you

This is the whole point. So you quickly pass the round, when the next card will give you the advantage of a clear superiority over rival. Avoid victory in the first round, since rival can lose its strongest cards to remain with nothing. Your benefit will be short-lived, and the two remaining rounds you simply lose. To be one step ahead, remember that if you have cards that remain in spite of everything, you can play them before distribution. So you get a certain advantage.

Planning future prospects

Always plan ahead for at least one turn. And remember that you can do combos, even with the cards that you already have. If you do not want to bluff, then do not play strong cards at once. Do not let the opponent to guess your deck.

If you win the first round, it is not too much to give to the victory in the second. Let your opponent spends active cards, while you yourself will walk this path in a quiet mode. That’s why the victory in the first round very often turns out to be not quite good idea.

Bluff

As with any card game, bluffing is essential in Gwent. There are many ways to bluff. First — deterrence. Open the first strong card and, perhaps, it will turn your enemy into a panic. Well, or at least make him worry. Cheating convince him that you still have something similar and just as powerful. After that, he is hoping to catch up with you will give more and more have their good cards. The second — a complete contrast to it, and therefore patience. It is entirely built around in order to make your opponent think about the victory as the issue almost solved. Try on the first moves to open weak cards. Be patient and take your time, it will almost certainly give you a chance to catch the opponent on negligence or cycling on any one line of the playing field.

Know your combo card

Do not be afraid to experiment. By doing this you will find the most suited game cards to your style. For example, you can build a deck of weather monsters, which will focus on the effects of frost and fog. Thus, you will have a combo of Wild Hunt and Foglet.

However, do not overdo it and do not get more than two combos. Due to the limitations of the draw cards in Gwent you can easily get extra combo. This playbook is not necessarily true for all styles, but more often is a good choice. Try to play the card game with more than one purpose. If the card can be played in more than one combo, always keep it in your deck at maximum readiness level.

The importance of the leader card

Each faction has three leaders to choose from (one fraction at the start). Each leader is paying bonuses — from brute force and agility ending obtaining combos. Continuing with the previous example, Dagon can be a great leader in the weather deck of monsters, because he will cause any natural effect, you just want. Be careful when you choose a leader for your opponent —  understand exactly what you have in mind. After all, there will always be someone smarter or more experienced, however.
